Tips for protecting yourself against the cold and flu.

Heated Stone Massage Special for the month of December.

$10 off any heated stone massage through the end of December.

Heated stone massages are a great way to relax during this busy time of year. The heat from the stones travels deep into the muscles and joints, helping them to relax, and improves circulation.

It is very helpful for people dealing with arthritis, muscular aches and pains, Fibromyalgia, and MS. Deep penetrating heat melts away knots, tension, and stress - leaving you feeling relaxed, renewed, and rejuvenated!

Call (360) 413-5863 today to book your appointment.
60 minutes: $75
90 minutes: $100

Introductory prices on Paraffin Dips, Peppermint Foot Scrubs, and Happy Hands and Feet will end December 31st. See website for pricing.

Gift of massage
Don't know what gift to give to someone? How about a heated stone massage? Or a "Happy Hands & Feet" treatment? Go to http://www.lacey-massage-therapy.com/massage-rates.html to see what services are available. I can do a gift certificate for any combination of services.

Natural ways to protect yourself during the cold and flu season (or anytime!)

One of my all time favorite ways to ensure that I don't come down with something is to use my Neti pot at the first sign of symptoms. Ideally, I would use it every day, but I'm not that disciplined (yet). If you don't know what a Neti pot is, it is a small pot that looks like an Aladdin lamp (at least mine does) that you fill with warm water and a small amount of sea salt. You use it to flush out your nasal passages, which will help to remove bacteria, mucus, allergens, and/or irritants. You can find them at most health food stores and drugstores, as well as online. They come with instructions on how to use. Below is the one that I like:

Neti Pot Ceramic Starter Kit KIT

Neti Pot Ceramic Starter Kit KIT

Neti Pot Ceramic Starter KitThe Starter Kit contains everything needed for a daily nasal wash routine?Ceramic Neti Pot, Neti Pot Salt 10 oz jar, and Neti Wash Plus 2 oz bottle. The Himalayan Institute introduced the Neti Pot 35 years ago as the perfect tool to support sinus health. The Neti Pot naturally cleanses, refreshes, and protects the nasal passages and has been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine to alleviate allergy and sinus problems..

If you are reading this email in text format and don't see the picture of the neti pot kit, or have a button to click on, please go to my back issues page to read. Thanks!

My other tried-and-true treatment is to gargle with salt water. I use it at the first sign of a scratchy throat, and it usually takes care of it right away. I'll gargle with salt water 2 – 3 times a day for a few days, along with using the Neti pot, to ensure that I've taken care of it. Try it, it works!

Many people opt to increase their Vitamin C during this time. Also, using echinacea and zinc lozenges at the first sign of a cold can help, although I would still do the gargle and Neti pot routine.

Then there is always the common sense of getting plenty of rest, staying hydrated, and eating whole foods. Get plenty of exercise and fresh air. This time of year – at least in the Pacific Northwest – we tend to keep our houses closed up against the cold, so every now and then throw open the doors or windows, and let some fresh air circulate through your house. Wash your hands frequently, and try not to touch your face a lot.

And remember to enjoy the holidays – they are meant to be joyful, not stressful. It's OK to say “no”, without offering any reason or excuse. Taking care of yourself should always be your first priority, because only then will you be able to help others.

Until next time....
Becky... :o)
