Jan 29, 2010, Valentine's Day of Pampering for our local Military spouses.

I'm honored to be part of the "Valentine's Day of Pampering" put on by the Fort Lewis Ranger and NorthwestAirlifter newspapers.

I will be providing free chair massages for the spouses of our local military.

The papers are hosting a “take your mind off your lonely hearts” afternoon with a fashion show, spa treatments, dance classes, food, drinks, prizes, beauty treatments, give-aways andmore, absolutely FREE of charge. This is for the spouses of our local military at Ft. Lewis and McCord.

I'm excited to be a part of this event, and glad that I am able to help support them.

Jan 26, 2010, Signing up to be an insurance provider again.

A couple of friends of mine have been asking - make that begging and pleading - me for a couple of years to be a provider for Uniform insurance.

I quit billing insurances about 10 years ago, and have been enjoying just having a cash clientele.

So after giving it much thought, I have decided to apply to be a provider for Uniform. I'm also going to re-activate my Labor & Industries account.

I will keep everyone posted when it is all "official".

I hope that you are enjoying your day!

Jan 19, 2010, Mid-January Musings....

Here it is, past the middle of January already. Where does the time go?? I think of all my goals, and the steps that I was going to implement in my schedule each day to accommodate them, and wonder what happened?

This is nothing new in my life. I, like many people, tend to take on too many projects at once, then get overwhelmed, and do nothing, or very little to work on/towards them.

So I'm offering this reminder to everyone, knowing that it is really for myself:

Break down your goals into manageable steps, and do something every day. That might mean reading/studying, clarifying your goals, or actually DOING something! (What a concept...)

Think of where you want to be, and what you want to be doing in 1, 3, and 5 years. Then work backwards. If one of your goals is financial... how much do you want to be making? What is your timeline? How much do you need to make today, in 6 months, in 1 year, in 2 years, etc to reach your goal?

If health and fitness is another of your goals, what does that mean for you? Is it a weight that you want to be? A clothes size? Something else measurable, like how far you can walk/run for a certain time? Again, break it down into little steps. What can you do today, to help get you there? Do you need to change any habits?

Take it slow... you don't need to change everything at once. Just implement one thing at a time. Before you know it, you will be much further along than you thought possible.

Just remember to do something every day towards your goals, and you will get there!

Jan 11, 2010, Happy New Year!

I'm a little late in wishing everyone a "happy new year". Many people make resolutions at this time of year, and I would guess that most, if not all, of those are to be healthier.

For some, that might mean losing weight, or toning up, or getting more flexible.

For others, it could mean cleaning up their eating for optimal health.

While massage won't help you with your eating choices, it CAN help with keeping your body limber and more flexible.

Many of my clients come to me on a regular basis for the cumulative effects that massage has on the body.

If you haven't booked a massage in a while, now would be a good time to start. :o)

Dec 25, 2009, Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! The sun is breaking through the fog here in Lacey, WA, and it looks like another gorgeous day in the Pacific Northwest. :o)

Wishing everyone health and happiness for the coming year.

Take time to invest in yourself - read good books (I recommend one below), spend time with people that you enjoy and that support your goals. Pay attention to what you eat, and get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Take long walks, go hiking, ride your bike, or this time of year go skiing, snowboarding, or snowshoeing. Just get up and move.

And of course, get a massage! :o)

Recommended reading:
I just finished Deepak Chopra's "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success". It's a quick read, and great reminders and advice. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did!

Dec 22, 2009, Nurturing foods for the winter!

With the extreme cold weather that we had recently in the Pacific Northwest, and my turning to eating a more vegetarian/vegan diet, I've been trying out many new recipes from www.vegweb.com.

Below is one of my favorites! Enjoy. :o)

Black Bean Sweet Potato Chili

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

2 onions, chopped 5 cloves garlic, chopped 2-3 tablespoon olive oil (more if onions start to burn) 2 cans (4 oz) diced green chiles 2 tablespoon spices (cumin, chile powder, cinnamon, cocoa powder to taste) 1 large lime (or 2 small), zest and juice 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped into 1/2 cubes 28 oz can whole tomatoes, chopped 4 cans (15 oz) black beans, rinsed 2 chipotle chiles (canned chipotle in adobo sauce), chopped 1 bunch cilantro, chopped leaves 1/2 - 1 cup water as needed Buy organic when possible!

Directions:

Saute garlic and onions in olive oil on low-medium heat till limp. Add lime zest, squash, 1/2 lime juice, and spices and cook covered for 15 min (add a little water or olive oil if the mixture starts to stick to the bottom). Add tomatoes, black beans, chipotle chiles, cilantro and cook until sweet potatoes are tender. Add remaining lime juice and more spices to taste if necessary, and simmer covered for 10 min, adding more water if needed.

Serve with brown basmati rice and vegan sour cream!!!
